Councillor Sharmila Setaram re-elected to AMO Board of Directors

City of Welland Councillor Sharmila Setaram has been re-elected to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Board of Directors, continuing to represent the Small Urban Caucus and bringing Welland’s perspective to municipal discussions at the provincial level.

Councillor Setaram was re-elected during the 2026 AMO Conference, held August 16 to 19 in Ottawa. More than 3,000 municipal leaders and delegates attended the sold-out conference, which also included more than 750 delegation meetings between municipal representatives and the provincial government.

As a member of the 2026–2028 AMO Board of Directors, Councillor Setaram will help set the association’s policy direction and advance priorities shared by Ontario’s 444 municipalities.

“I’m grateful for the trust of my municipal colleagues across Ontario and proud to continue serving on the AMO Board. I look forward to continuing to bring the perspectives of Welland, Niagara, and small urban communities to the table, and to working alongside municipal leaders from across the province. By sharing our experiences, ideas, and perspectives, we can work together to advance strong, sustainable communities across Ontario,” said Councillor Sharmila Setaram.

AMO brings together municipalities of different sizes and from every region of Ontario to strengthen their collective voice on issues that affect communities across the province. Councillor Setaram’s continued role on the Small Urban Caucus ensures the experiences and priorities of communities such as Welland are represented as the Board develops policy positions and advocates with other orders of government.

“Councillor Setaram’s re-election to the AMO Board is a strong reflection of the respect she has earned among municipal leaders across Ontario,” said Mayor Frank Campion. “Her continued presence at the table ensures Welland has a voice in important conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing municipalities. We are proud to see her continue representing our community while helping advance the shared priorities of small urban municipalities across the province.”

AMO is a non-profit organization representing Ontario’s 444 municipalities. Through its work with AMO, the City of Welland joins municipalities across the province in advocating for priorities that affect local communities, including long-term, predictable infrastructure funding to support housing and economic growth; appropriate provincial funding for health and social services that are provincial responsibilities; and coordinated action and investment from all orders of government to address homelessness.
