Canalside Players bring sizzling comedy to Welland with Five Alarm

Get ready for a spicy mix of rivalry, mystery, and laughter as Canalside Players present Five Alarm, a hilarious comedy by Kristen Da Silva and directed by Jessica Sweeny.

This latest production from Welland’s beloved community theatre group follows a young woman as she attempts to win her hometown’s chili cook-off after 16 years of failed attempts. With secret recipes, family rivalries, and a few unexpected twists, this fast-paced play delivers a heartwarming and humorous look at the pursuit of culinary greatness.

“This production showcases the incredible talent in our community and highlights the joy of live theatre,” said Tori Royer, recreation coordinator for the City of Welland. “Canalside Players continue to enrich our cultural landscape with their engaging performances, and Five Alarm is sure to be a crowd-pleasing hit.”

The Canalside Players have been entertaining Welland audiences for 12 years, bringing high-quality volunteer-driven theatre productions to the city. This season’s production of Five Alarm will be performed at the Welland Community Centre, 145 Lincoln Street, offering a comfortable and accessible venue for theatregoers.

“We can’t wait to share this production with the community and hope everyone comes out to support local theatre,” said director Jessica Sweeny.

Showtimes:

• Opening night gala: Friday, April 4 – Cocktails and finger foods at 5:30 p.m., performance at 7 p.m.
• Evening performances: Saturday, April 5; Friday, April 11; and Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m.
• Matinee performance: Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
