Statutory Public Open House scheduled for City of Welland Official Plan update

The City of Welland invites residents to attend a Statutory Public Open House to learn more about the City’s updated Official Plan. This drop-in event gives community members the chance to review the draft plan, ask questions, and speak directly with staff involved in the project.

When: Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Where: Council Chambers, Welland Civic Square, 60 East Main St., Welland

The Official Plan guides how the city grows and develops over time. It helps determine where housing, jobs, parks, and services go, and how they come together to create a healthy, sustainable community.

The updated plan was prepared by the City and its planning consultants, SGL Planning & Design Inc., and reflects Welland’s growth and priorities for the future.

Highlights of the updated Official Plan include:

• Creating vibrant, healthy communities that support local businesses and address climate change.
• Recognizing First Nations history and treaty lands.
• Updating population and housing forecasts to plan for Welland’s growth.
• Identifying areas for growth within the city.
• Protecting natural areas, green spaces, and trees.
• Encouraging art, culture, and good design to improve community life.
• Promoting walking, cycling, and strong infrastructure planning.
• Aligning with provincial and regional policies.

No registration is needed; residents are welcome to drop in anytime during the open house.

A Statutory Public Meeting of Council will also be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Welland Civic Square. This formal meeting offers another opportunity to learn more about the updated Official Plan and provide feedback. Anyone wishing to speak may attend the meeting in person or virtually.
