Properties and Facilities

The WIFC combines international-standard competitive watersports facilities with recreational and social opportunities for all to enjoy.

WIFC North Course

A completely accessible, state-of-the-art venue meeting the highest international standards for training and competition.

With basin-like characteristics at depths of 35 feet, the WIFC North Course is an ideal location for all types of flatwater sports. Sloped banks make for great viewing in a natural amphitheatre setting, allowing for thousands of spectators in addition to the venue’s 500-plus permanent seating area. Surrounding trees on both sides of the banks provide an additional windscreen benefit. Overall, our North Course is leading the way among Canadian venues with the following amenities:

  • timing tower and athletes centre with security access functionality
  • wireless connectivity throughout
  • medical docks providing efficient communication between stations
  • weather monitoring station for tracking weather conditions
  • community washrooms with wheelchair accessibility
  • parking space for more than 500 vehicles
  • FinishLynx timing system with split timing capability
  • Poralu docks allowing for paracanoe and adaptive rowing

WIFC South Course

A 2,000-metre Albano Buoy System-marked course provides an exceptional flatwater experience for athletes and spectators.

Like the North Course, this venue offers basin-like characteristics with water depths of 35 feet. Paved trails along the canal's west bank allow individuals to follow the races. Our South Course also offers:

  • three-level timing tower with a full view of the course
  • wireless connectivity at the finish area for spectators
  • weather monitoring station for tracking weather conditions
  • parking space for over 350 vehicles
  • FinishLynx timing system with split timing capability

Indoor Paddle Tank

A one-of-a-kind, multi-sport flatwater training facility where canoers, kayakers, rowers, and dragon boaters of all skill levels can practice on moving water in the winter months.

The moving water, variable speed training tank at the WIFC delivers community sport and recreation programming across all seasons. The experience is equivalent to a treadmill but with water as the training surface instead of rubber.

Whether you have stood on the podium in the spirit of competition or never been out on the water, adjustable water speeds accommodate the abilities of all users, from first-time to national champions. Schools, community groups, and sporting clubs/teams are encouraged to grab a paddle or an oar and try this facility.
