Dig into spring with Welland’s annual tulip bulb giveaway
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | May 11, 2026
The City of Welland is giving residents another opportunity to bring spring home with the return of its annual tulip bulb giveaway.
The event takes place Friday, May 15, starting at 8 a.m. at the Welland Sports Complex, 90 Quaker Road, while supplies last.
Each year, the City refreshes its garden beds across parks and boulevards as part of seasonal maintenance. Instead of discarding the bulbs, staff prepare them for reuse, offering residents a simple way to plant, grow, and enjoy them again in their own yards.
The giveaway continues to draw strong community interest, turning a routine horticultural practice into a shared experience that extends the look and feel of Welland’s public spaces into neighbourhoods across the city.
“This is a great opportunity for residents to take something that has already added colour to our city and give it a second life at home,” said Craig Danys, working foreperson of horticulture & cemeteries. “It’s a simple way to support sustainable practices while helping Welland stay vibrant beyond our parks and boulevards.”
City staff will pre-bag the tulip bulbs to help keep the line moving. The giveaway is first come, first served, and quantities are limited.
The annual tulip bulb giveaway reflects the City’s ongoing approach to caring for green spaces in a responsible and practical way, while encouraging residents to take part in maintaining and enhancing the natural beauty of their community.
