City of Welland sells final parcel in River Road business park

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | March 16, 2026

The City of Welland has finalized the sale of the last remaining industrial parcel in the River Road and Downs Drive Business Park, marking the completion of the City’s seventh municipally-owned business park.

Hudson Harper West & Co., operating as Canadian Metal Buildings, has acquired the 12.34-acre property at 460 River Road for the relocation of its corporate head office and manufacturing operations from Stoney Creek to Welland.

The company plans to construct an initial 85,000 square foot manufacturing facility, with additional lands reserved for future expansion. The development creates approximately 75 full-time skilled trades positions within the community. Construction is expected to begin immediately following closing, with operations targeted to commence December 1, 2027.

“This milestone represents a significant achievement for the City of Welland,” said Mayor Frank Campion. “The successful sale of the final parcel in the River Road Business Park reflects Council’s long-term commitment to economic growth and our focus on attracting quality employers that provide sustainable, well-paying jobs for our residents.”

Council first approved the creation of the River Road and Downs Drive Business Park in 2018 to ensure an inventory of serviced employment lands to support future growth. Since that time, the City has actively marketed and sold parcels within the park, with 460 River Road representing the final available site.

“Canadian Metal Buildings is proud to invest in Welland and support the continued growth of the River Road Business Park,” said Justin Bruzzese, president of Canadian Metal Buildings. “The City has shown a strong commitment to advanced manufacturing and skilled trades, which aligns with our vision for the future. This project represents more than a new facility. It creates opportunities for innovation, skilled careers, and long-term partnership. We’re excited to grow in a community that shares our commitment to building better buildings and better lives.”

The completion of this sale represents another step forward in Council’s strategic priority of advancing economic growth by fostering partnerships and supporting emerging markets to create a diverse and resilient local economy.
