Concerts on the Canal earns Top 100 recognition for second straight year
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | February 26, 2026
The City of Welland’s Concerts on the Canal series has once again been recognized as one of the Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario by Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO).
The 2026 Top 100 Award winners were officially announced on Wednesday, February 25, during the FEO Awards Gala. This marks the second consecutive year the City’s signature summer music series has received the provincial honour and the second year the series has been delivered by the City of Welland.
Held at the Merritt Park Amphitheatre along Welland’s recreational canal, Concerts on the Canal is a free summer music series featuring six evenings of live performances between June and September, bringing residents and visitors together in a vibrant, open-air setting.
“Being recognized as a Top 100 Festival and Event in Ontario for a second year in a row is an incredible honour for our community,” said Erin Carl, supervisor of festival and events. “Concerts on the Canal is more than a music series — it is a celebration of community, culture, and connection. This award reflects the dedication of our staff, volunteers, sponsors, performers, and the thousands of residents and visitors who fill Merritt Park to experience live music in the heart of our city.”
The annual recognition program celebrates Ontario’s most outstanding festivals and events, highlighting those that demonstrate excellence in community impact, visitor experience, and economic benefit.
With its unique floating stage, diverse lineup of local and national talent, and welcoming waterfront atmosphere, Concerts on the Canal continues to strengthen Welland’s downtown core. Each event supports local restaurants, retailers, and vendors while creating opportunities for residents and visitors to gather, connect, and enjoy shared experiences.
By enhancing access to recreation and community events and creating inclusive spaces for all ages and abilities, Concerts on the Canal helps foster a strong sense of belonging and community pride. The City of Welland looks forward to building on this success as planning continues for another exciting season of live music along the canal this summer.
