Welland Council and staff prepare to advocate for the community at annual AMO conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | August 18, 2025

Mayor Frank Campion, members of Welland City Council, and senior staff will join more than 2,500 municipal and provincial leaders in Ottawa from August 17–20 for the 2025 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference.

The AMO Conference is where Ontario’s municipalities come together to share ideas, solve problems, and influence decisions that shape our communities. Welland’s delegation is heading to Ottawa with a clear purpose: to secure resources, partnerships, and policy changes that directly benefit Welland residents.

“This conference in particular is an opportunity shine a light on the City of Welland and the amazing things we’re doing and have on the horizon,” said Campion. “At AMO, the relationships we’ve built with the provincial government are on full display and this allows us to advocate and collaborate on ideas and solutions that affect all aspects of our community. It’s about making sure Welland’s needs are understood, supported, and acted upon.”

The conversations and connections at AMO have a real, lasting impact on the city. By meeting face-to-face with provincial decision-makers, Welland’s leaders will work alongside provincial partners to explore funding opportunities, address affordable housing needs, support local job growth, advocate for health care as our community grows, and ensure residents have the resources they need to thrive. Finding ways to work in lockstep with the provincial government is how local government can maximize the return to its community.

This year’s program includes more than 60 sessions covering affordable housing, infrastructure renewal, homelessness, fiscal sustainability, technology innovation, and Indigenous reconciliation. Mayor Campion and City officials will take part in targeted meetings with provincial ministries to advance Welland’s priorities, turning conversations into commitments that serve our residents.

The AMO Conference is an opportunity to bring back solutions, partnerships, and investments that matter to Welland. Our city is proud to be part of the conversations shaping Ontario’s future, ensuring that Welland continues to grow with purpose, momentum, and a focus on our people.
