Community invited to City on the Move, Transportation Master Plan PIC #2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | November 13, 2023

The second of two Public Information Centres (PIC) for Welland’s Transportation Master Plan is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall.

The PIC allows residents to provide feedback and input on the plan’s direction.

Dubbed a City on the Move, the plan provides Welland with a long-term road network and active transportation strategies to support existing and accommodate projected population and employment growth.

"As the City grows, we are collaborating with residents to develop a transportation plan that can meet current and future needs," said Livia McEachern, the engineering manager. "The primary objective of the PIC is to involve the residents and provide a reliable transportation system that they can trust.”

The Master Plan aims to:

  • Connect residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
  • Enhance active transportation (cycling and pedestrian).
  • Promote safe, environmentally responsible, and accessible transportation.
  • Promote links to areas of growth, neighbouring municipalities, and key corridors.
  • Update and create transportation policies to support community vision.
  • Update transportation section and schedules within the City’s Official Plan.
  • Create a capital plan to meet the City’s future transportation needs.

The purpose of this PIC is to present and obtain feedback on the proposed improvement alternatives identified in the study, the preliminary evaluation of alternatives, and the preferred set of improvements. The PIC will be held in an informal “Open House” format with materials pertaining to the study on display and members of the project team on hand to answer questions and discuss issues related to the project.

The masterplan aligns with the City of Welland’s strategic commitment to livability, enhancing mobility and improving ways to efficiently move people throughout the city.
