City celebrates the completion of the Rec Rentals @ the Docks mural

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | July 26, 2023

The recreational canal just got a little more colourful, thanks to the new mural welcoming residents to the City’s Rec Rentals @ the Docks location. This installation, completed at the hub of waterway usage, celebrates the City of Welland and its connection to the trails, parks, and waterway.

Reinvigorating public spaces is a great way to build community and provide an opportunity for connection. The mural @ the Docks is just one of the mural activations the City is implementing. Welland is committed to creating well-used public spaces that welcome all and gives residents something to be proud of.

“Continued usage of our outdoor public spaces improves the quality of life and well-being of our residents,” said Erin Carl, supervisor of festivals and events. “As our city continues to transform, we’re committed to activating public spaces and supporting the vibrancy of our waterways.”

The artist, Yasaman Mehrsa, carefully created two complimentary murals covering the two sea container buildings. The art highlights the numerous ways residents and visitors can enjoy the City’s waterway and outdoor spaces.

“My design is symbolically the representation of community, togetherness, and vibrancy,” Mehrsa wrote. “I like to create artworks that are distinctive, engaging, and memorable.”

The mural project had an overall budget of $8,000 and was completed on July 15, 2023.
