City of Welland statement on Floatfest 2026.

We understand many residents and visitors were looking forward to this year's Floatfest event and recognize the disappointment caused by its cancellation. While the event originally scheduled for July 5, 2026, is officially cancelled, the City is aware of online discussions suggesting that individuals may still gather at the recreational canal on that date.

As a result, the safety measures typically associated with the event will not be in place, including:

• Lifeguards or on-water safety personnel
• Dedicated emergency response resources
• Water rescue equipment
• Event supervision, monitoring, or registration systems

Police, fire, and paramedic services will continue to respond to emergencies as they normally would throughout the city. Dedicated event-specific staffing and resources will not be in place as they normally would during a sanctioned event.

Individuals who choose to access the canal on July 5 do so at their own risk.

• Being aware of water conditions, currents, and personal swimming ability
• Refraining from alcohol consumption in public spaces where prohibited
• Parking only in designated areas; vehicles parked illegally may be subject to ticketing or towing
• Respecting all posted signage and directions from City staff, by-law enforcement, and emergency services
• No motorized boats or personal watercraft are permitted
