Annual municipal street sweeping program begins March 30
Posted | March 23, 2026
The City of Welland’s annual street sweeping program is expected to begin Monday, March 30, weather permitting and depending on how long cold temperatures continue. The program typically runs until the end of April and helps keep municipal roadways clean while preventing debris from entering the storm sewer system.
Sweeping will begin in the south end of the city and move northward. Crews will work systematically through neighbourhoods to clean curb lines, including within cul-de-sacs.
Street sweeping improves air quality by reducing dust and airborne particles while also protecting local waterways from debris that can wash into the storm sewer system, eventually reaching the canal, river, and creeks.
Residents can help support the program by following a few simple steps:
-
Avoid parking on the road during the sweeping period.
Do not sweep driveway or sidewalk debris onto the roadway.
Do not sweep gutter or road-edge debris into piles.
Remove hockey and basketball nets from the roadway.
