Ribbon-cutting for Veterans’ Crosswalks moves to Chippawa Park

Posted | June 06, 2025

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for Welland’s two new Veterans’ Crosswalks has changed and will take place at Chippawa Park at the corner of Fitch Street and First Avenue on Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m.

The crosswalks—installed on June 4 and 5—honour those who have served and continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. They are located near the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4 on Morningstar Avenue and by the cenotaph in Chippawa Park.

The crosswalk design, approved by the Royal Canadian Legion’s Dominion Executive Council, ensures a respectful and consistent representation across communities. The City worked closely with Legion representatives to finalize both locations and the design features.

More than symbolic markers, these crosswalks reflect Welland’s broader goals of enhancing public spaces, improving accessibility, and celebrating shared community values.
