Canal Construction Mural

The mural titled Canal Construction is affixed to the exterior of the Welland Historical Museum.

Depicting the construction of the canal bypass in the 1970s, the mural is a bold and striking creation illustrating the relationship between man and machinery.

It is the work of local artist Bas Degroot, who also created the mural titled New World.

This mural was part of an arts project that saw 26 giant murals created in the downtown and north end of the city between 1988 and 1990. The themes chosen for the murals were inspired by local history, and funds for the project were provided by all levels of government, local businesses, organizations, and citizens.
