Join us for an exciting Earth Day Extravaganza at the Welland Farmers’ Market on Saturday, April 18 at Market Square.

Don’t miss your chance to grab an environmentally friendly, reusable jute Market tote bag and free seed kits. There will also be free eco-friendly gifts for everyone to enjoy.

Event details

The following organizations will be attending the event:

  • The Niagara Region Waste Management will have recycling containers for sale and information on waste management
  • Biodiversity and Climate Action Committee Niagara will be bringing brochures about how to plant and care for trees and will have tree seeds to hand out
  • The Green Advisory Committee members will be handing out supplies for the Community Cleanup initiative to clean up Merritt Island and the Canal lands.
  • Charity BBQ by Team Niagara On Ice: enjoy a hot dog, sausage or hamburger to support the Niagara On Ice hockey team who are participating in the 2026 Pro-Am for Alzheimer's

Free tree giveaway

Beginning March 31, Welland residents can register online to order a free tree sapling or in person at the Welland Community Centre beginning April 1. There are six different trees to select from, each with its’ own pickup date during the Welland Farmers’ Market on Saturday, April 12 and April 19. Community clean-up

Celebrate Earth Day by showing love to your community by removing litter and debris from City parks, open Spaces, and trails. The city will be hosting a community clean-up on April 19 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you are not able to celebrate in our clean-up, keep with the Earth Day theme by maintaining and tidying your own property or business to keep our community clean.

Event details

  • No pre-registration required.
  • Bags are provided and are to be picked up on April 19 at Welland Market Square between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • Bring your own gloves to reduce waste.
  • Leave bagged waste in close proximity to a municipal garbage can at one of the listed locations.
  • Clean-up along streets and high traffic areas is discouraged.

Hazardous Items

Do not pick up anything that could be hazardous to your health. This includes:
  • hypodermic needles
  • syringes
  • jagged glass or other sharp objects
  • animal carcasses
  • urine bottles
  • heavy objects
  • air brakes
