My School Jersey Challenge
Friday, November 8, is the day we ignite the Hometown Hockey Spirit and set the Weekend Warm-up on FIRE! Students across the city will be wearing their favourite jerseys to school on Friday. Don’t have a jersey? No problem! Red and White are the Hometown Hockey colours that will be popping across the city, and we invite you to wear these colours instead of a jersey. #MySchoolJerseyChallenge

My Community Jersey Challenge
Students all over Welland will be wearing their favourite jersey on Friday, November 8, to kick-off a fun-fabulous weekend of Hometown Hockey. So why can’t you? We’re challenging Welland businesses and residents to participate in the My Community Jersey Challenge to help us welcome the Hometown Hockey Team to Welland. Feel free to post a photo of you, along with your colleagues or friends, on social media to join in the virtual fun. #MyJerseyChallenge

Don’t drop your jersey on the floor after work because it’ll be warn-in just enough to wear to the Friday night Weekend Warm-up at the Welland arenas. See Weekend Schedule – Friday, November 8 for details.

Fill the Net Food Drive Challenge
We’re challenging Welland schools to host a food drive and attempt to fill an entire hockey net full of non-perishable food items. All participating schools will end the donation drive on Friday, November 8, with a My School Jersey Challenge.

The school with the most number of food items (per capita) will get a shout out on the Hometown Hockey Broadcast on Sunday, November 10, featuring Ron MacLean and Tara Slone. All proceeds from Fill the Net Food Drive Challenge will benefit the Hope Centre and Open Arms Mission of Welland. Schools are invited to show their pride by posting a photo on social media of students wearing their favourite jerseys and showing all the food they collected. #WeFilledTheNet

You can also help fill the net at:

  • Welland Civic Square 60 East Main Street
  • Welland Community Wellness Complex 145 Lincoln Street
  • Welland Main Arena 501 King Street

Both Downtown Welland and North Welland Business Improvement Areas are jumping on board with the Rogers Hometown Hockey festivities and leading a Paint the Town Red & White storefront window decorating contest. Welland businesses, city-wide, are encouraged to participate.

The contest begins Thursday, October 24 and runs until Wednesday, November 6. Deadline for entries is Monday, November 4. Judging takes place on Friday, November 8.

Suggestions for decoration themes include:

  • Welland Pride
  • Local Hockey History
  • Red and White Colour Schemes

Don't forget to share your decorated storefront pictures on Facebook, tagging @downtownwelland, @NorthWellandBIA and @rogershometownhockey

Two grand prizes will be awarded (one for Downtown Welland and one for North Welland). An exclusive behind the scenes tour of Rogers Hometown Hockey on Saturday, November 9, 2019, along with swag bags full of hockey goodies.
