Message from Mayor Frank Campion

ON COVID-19

– May 14, 2020

With the Victoria Day long weekend approaching, I remind everyone to please continue to follow the rules of social distancing, staying home and not having gatherings of more than 5 people.

As the Province begins to allow certain businesses and services to reopen, we need to remember that COVID-19 is still with us. We need to continue to act responsibly to make certain we are taking precautions to stop the spread.

I recognize the significant strain that COVID-19 has placed on each and every one of us. However, we need to continue to make these sacrifices in order to protect family, friends and our entire community.

Welland Fire and Emergency services is also strongly recommending that residents do not have backyard fireworks displays until further notice. The city is prohibiting the sale of fireworks for the Victoria Day long weekend to deter residents from setting off fireworks, which have the potential to harm users and also place stress on first responders and the health care system.

I would also like to recognize National Nursing Week - I would like to acknowledge all the nurses - we celebrate you and thank you for the incredible and selfless work you do each day to keep us safe and healthy especially during this time.

Thank you to the front line health workers, EMS and the many people that keep our essential services operating during this difficult time. They are at the front lines and we all need to do our part in protecting them and ourselves.

Please visit the City of Welland website and the Niagara Region website for information on COVID-19.

Please stay safe.

Sincerely, Mayor Frank Campion
