Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the backbone of a community. Their giving spirit and sense of community above self are admirable and appreciated.

City of Welland volunteers play integral roles in many of our festivals, events, and programs. Simply put, without them, we aren’t the great community we are today. We encourage individuals of all ages and abilities to play an active role in their community by volunteering their time to help deliver recreation and culture programs.

Through our volunteer program, volunteers are interviewed and matched with positions meeting their individual needs and interests. The recreation, sport, and culture division trains and supervises volunteers, providing them with enjoyable opportunities, rewarding experiences, and ongoing recognition and incentive programs throughout the year.

General requirements

  • volunteers must be at least 14 years of age
  • a Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required for volunteers working with participants under 18 years of age
  • completion of a volunteer application form, interview, and orientation session

Volunteer interview and orientation sessions

Interview sessions are held before orientation is complete, ensuring your volunteer goals and our expectations are similar. Interviews are usually completed the same week as orientation.

Mandatory orientation sessions are held once a month, educating volunteers about the City’s policies and procedures.

Other benefits include:

  • receiving a branded t-shirt
  • lunch provided for all shifts
