  1. Your local authority having jurisdiction for the installation of septic systems is the City of Welland and not the Regional Health Department?
     
  2. If you buy your new home from a builder registered with Tarion the home has new home warranty coverage from defects in work and materials, major structural defects, and, in some cases, unauthorized substitutions
     
  3. City Building Inspectors do not regulate or inspect new construction for electrical or fuel fired appliance installations which are done by others (electrical - Electrical Safety Authority ESA, fuel - Technical Standards and SafetyAssociation TSSA)

  5. That All Building Inspectors and Officials are Qualified by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing of Ontario.
     
  6. That the Building’s Foundation of a construction project is very important.
     
  7. The Ontario Building Code (OBC) is a regulation All municipalities must follow and enforce for All Building construction projects. It is the Bible of the construction world.
     
  8. That we are here (The Building Division) to help you and serve you with any building permit related questions.
     
  9. That buildings may not be constructed until the Chief Building Official (CBO) has approved and signed the permit/design drawings.
     
  10. Plan Examination ensures that proposed projects conform to Zoning By-laws, Ontario Building Code Minimum requirements, Municipal guidelines as well as, other Applicable Legislation or Laws.
     
  11. That we have all of our Building Permit information as well as, sample drawings on our City of Welland website.
     
  12. That the Ministry has a Common Building Permit Form for all municipalities of Ontario effective as of July 1, 2005.
     
  13. Barrier Free design means equal access to all areas (incl. buildings) by ALL individuals without any group being required to access those areas through different paths.
     
  14. In the event of a fire, The CBO or City Building Inspector may be called to investigate the building being unsafe.
     
  15. You should not build until you talk to us, The Building Division, Do it once, Do it right. Ask First!!!
     
  16. That Building Without a Permit (BWOP) is a violation of the Building By-Law and you will be charged a fee. (min. $133 above and beyond your actual permit fees)
